I finished my outriggers (yeah!). Note that I shunned the bungie cord tie down for an adjustable one made from same nylon used on the rigger. These were easy to make and when the riggers begin to stretch I simply adjust the tie down. We’ll see how well it works while fishing.

Repairs good enough for first Bahamas crossing…

We left the house at 6:45 am and met up with some friends in their 30 foot Pursuit. We ran to West End to clear customs. From there we ran to the Sugar Wreck where we dove. Our friend Mike Bacon, who is an expert diver, caught the following with his bare hands: an octopus, a nurse shark, a lobster, a huge puffer and a handful of file fish. He almost caught a 20 lb grouper bare handed but couldn’t hang on. We came back to West End and stayed at Blue Marlin Cove. The amenities were great. Got up the next morning (Sunday, 6/21/09 - Father’s Day) and fished in the morning around Settlement Point. We lost some big fish, caught one dolphina and two barracuda. We will go back there when we have more time to try for Wahoo with split tail mullet. We then got the wives and the kids, fueled up at Old Bahama Bay and then headed north for “an undisclosed location”. It was quite a bit choppier, but my wife and kids did great. We swam with the Atlantic Spotted Dolphin for about an hour. What a thrill! From there we made the 50 mile trek back to Stuart. All in all we clocked 283 nm on the boat or roughly 18 hours. The boat ran great. Plenty of minor tweeks need to be made and “yes” I still need outriggers.

Got my second replacement Power Pak accuator today from Cable Manufacturning and Assembly. I hope this one works better than the first replacement. This photo shows the internals of a Powerpak (P/N 000-00138-00). It seems that the power board circuit blew in the original one. It lasted for over 3-years.
